Entrepreneurs Need Work Life Balance

As a business mentor, one of the main concerns I have with many of my clients is their failure to find a balance between work and their personal life. In some cases it is very evident that the lack of a balance is putting their health at risk and often causing extreme exhaustion.

Here are some simple tips for those who want to regain work life balance in their lives:

  • Eliminate Low Value Activities

In modern times, entrepreneurs are working longer hours than ever before, however many are simply wasting time on low-value activities.

Do you get distracted easily by social media or online news when you should be focused on the work at hand? The distraction may only last a few minutes at a time, but they quickly add up.

It’s important that you make the most out of every minute in your working day  as this is the key to finding a balance between your work and your personal life. By cutting out low-value activities such as distractions and errands, you may be able to work shorter hours and take care of yourself. Remember time is money and only carry out activities that directly relate to your overall business goals!

  • Schedule Everything

Yes I mean everything, including personal time. If you use your calendar to book business meetings, events etc then also use it to plan time away from the business.

If you want to have an amazing life, you have to be intentional about it. Your calendar is the plan for your time and time equals a balanced life style. Get into the habit of scheduling in fun as well as work.   Do you want to exercise more, then set recurring time blocks for that morning jog or an evening stroll.   This will also stop you from the dreaded multitasking where everything and nothing ever gets done right.

  • Let Go Of Fear

Do you struggle with fear that if you’re not working every minute of every day that your business will fail? The secret is letting go of this fear as it will not only lead to work-life balance but also more meaningful productivity and accomplishment. Also make sure you take off at least one day each week where you do something other than working or thinking about your business.

Understand that something is going to give if you don’t take the whole idea of work life balance seriously.

  • Separate Business & Personal Life

This might seem like a walk in the park but believe me, it is easier said than done. In a bid to be always available, accessible and offer excellent customer service, the thin line between your business and your personal life might be blurred.

So, it is key to separate them. This can be as simple as getting a different phone number for your business. This way, you’re not tempted to respond to messages that are not urgent outside work hours.  Also keep work separate from your home life, as this will allow you to switch off when away from the business.
